At American National we don't think the hardest thing that you do in college should be arranging for the financing of your education. That's why we have teamed up with Nelnet Education Planning and Financing to offer federally guaranteed student loans to both undergraduate and graduate level students. Its quick and it's easy. Below, we will cover the basics of student loan types and the application process.

There are three types of federally guaranteed student loans. First, there is the Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan. Eligibility for this particular loan type is based on financial need, and the government is responsible for paying the interest on these loans while the student is enrolled at least half time (12 hours) at an accredited institution of higher learning.

The second type is the Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan eligibility for which is based on cost of attendance. Under this type of loan the borrower is responsible for paying all interest which accrues.

The third is the Federal PLUS Loan. This loan is available to parents of dependent students. Like the Unsubsidized Stafford loan, eligibility is based upon the cost of attendance and interest is paid by the borrower.
